Description

The Berlin School of Public Engagement and Open Science is a collaborative project between the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, the Humboldt-Universitt zu Berlin and the Robert Bosch Stiftung.

The School brings researchers and target groups together to build confidence and competence and to open up research to society. We support political decision making, funders and research institutions to create a sustainable infrastructure and framework for the development of a sustainable public engagement field in Germany. We enable and strengthen interactive communication about and through research. In particular, we help researchers and their stakeholders to engage with research and research processes in a creative, interactive, impact oriented and context-aware way. To this end, we see ourselves as a hub for all actors in public engagement.

What This Organisation Can Offer

Our projects and training offers are scientifically motivated and accompanied. In this way, we also contribute to the development of public engagement as an interdisciplinary field of research. We are committed to a close and mutual exchange between theory and practice. For the professional community, we are building strong support networks to guide the development of the profession of Public Engagement.

Through the development of competencies and the exchange with international experts, we can support the establishment of Public Engagement as a professional field and thus involve the public in science in suitable formats.

Our first networking events and international, interdisciplinary training academies have been creative, interactive, and context-aware ways to engage with research and research processes, as well as the first steps on our path to building a community of professionals and engaged researchers.

What This Organisation Is Looking for

Public Engagement encompasses the variety of methods of interaction between research and non-academic stakeholders with mutual benefits. We support researchers and students of all career stages to build their skills, confidence, and experience in engaging their publics with their research. We are at the start of our journey in supporting researchers to develop their own individual projects that meaningfully engage stakeholders with their research topics, building pathways to academic and societal impact.
