BERLIN SCIENCE WEEK

Every year, between 1–10 November, Berlin becomes a nexus for celebrating scientific excellence, knowledge and discovery, and promoting innovative exchange.

The festival combines in person formats throughout Berlin with online and hybrid events. Our focus is on exchange and reflection: the programme is based on interactive and often interdisciplinary formats ranging from panel discussions, workshops, exhibitions, to VR-experiences, film screenings, music installations and much more. Internationally renowned scientists and institutions contribute to topic tracks reflecting the current challenges and debates in science and society.

IT'S A WRAP!

The 2023 edition of Berlin Science Week was our biggest success yet. Over the ten festival days, we staged more than 200 events by over 180 organisations and reached an audience exceeding 35.000 from more than 140 countries!

With record attendance numbers, new experimental formats, top research, stellar speakers, and engaged audiences, we proved once again that science is exciting, fresh, and has lots to offer to everyone. We are grateful to our participant organisations, individual researchers, and artists for their contribution and dedication – as well as our financial supporters and cooperation partners without whom we would not be able to fuel so many brains!

TWO CENTRAL LOCATIONS

For the fourth time, we have partnered up with the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin to create the CAMPUS, our established festival centre. Under the motto “Dare to Know: Our Narratives, Our Futures“, we addressed the question which narratives currently determine our vision of the future and how they are influenced.

In over 70 events, topics such as AI and creativity, the future of sustainability, experimental research methods, diversity and inclusion, quantum physics, or the importance of international collaboration for scientific research were explored. Read more here.

For the first time ever, we introduced a second central location, the ART & SCIENCE FORUM. Organised under the motto “Dare to Know: Creative Science, Precise Art”, the FORUM was dedicated to exploring the fruitful exchange between scientific research and artistic practice.

In over 30 formats we demonstrated the unique potential of this exchange, ranging from tiny galleries, workshops, and science slams, to concerts, performances, and a club night with a scientific twist. You can find out more here.

WHY BERLIN SCIENCE WEEK

Research, science, and innovation do have the potential to help solve the challenges the world is facing, but only if they are accessible to all and are applied wisely. We firmly believe that collaboration, dialogue, and reflection are key to a sustainable future.

With Berlin Science Week, we have created a platform for inter- and transdisciplinary exchange, a meeting place for the visionaries and the science enthusiasts and a space for reflection on where we’re heading and how we want to get there.

Berlin Science Week is also a laboratory for science communication. Our ambition is to experiment with science communication formats to find the best ways for making science and technology accessible, entertaining and attractive. Our vision is a world of science-literate citizens with a fact-based world-view, where science curiosity is a natural part of our lifestyle.
