Xena Serifova is addressing the challenge in psychiatry, specifically in the diagnosis of OCD, where biomarkers are lacking validity and specificity. Her solution involves innovative approaches, including symptom provocation techniques and multimodal assessment measures, to objectively quantify OCD-related symptoms and develop a reliable biomarker for the disorder.

Breaking the Wall of Biomarkers for OCD
Xena Serifova
Xena Serifova, a PhD researcher at KU Leuven, is a biomedical scientist interested in psychopathology, particularly OCD. Her focus lies in the objective quantification of OCD-related symptomatology to gain new insights into the aberrant emotional processing of individuals with OCD. At the core is the integration of newly designed symptom provocation techniques with multimodal assessment measures. Specifically, she is investigating overt attention using eye tracking, neural sensitivity through electroencephalography and intracranial recordings, as well as bodily arousal and autonomous stress physiology responses measured by heart rate, skin conductance, and pupillometry.
