Jessica L. Rohmann leads the Responsible Health Data Analysis Research Group at the QUEST Center for Responsible Research at the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité in Germany. Originally trained as a biochemist, she transitioned to public health, eventually earning her PhD in clinical epidemiology. She has been hooked on causal inference methods and working with observational health data ever since. In her research and teaching activities, Jessica supports applied researchers in formulating clear research questions, applying suitable methods, and transparently reporting their findings in an interpretable way. Her group has a particular focus on causal inference methods and meta-research. Her strong advocacy for rigorous, high-quality methods training for early-career researchers is evidenced by her leading roles in developing the Einstein Circle: Causal Inference from Observational Health Data, the Peerspectives peer-review training program, and the Health Data Sciences PhD Program at the Charité. She is also a member of the Berlin University Alliance “Advancing Research Quality and Value” Objective’s steering committee. When off her computer screen, you can find Jessica on stage with her Berlin-based short-form improvised comedy team.
I want to improve the quality of methods used in health research. I want this, because it is important to create high-quality evidence to inform health policy and decision-making. I can do this, because I am comfortable working at the interdisciplinary junction between theoretical, methods-development work and real-world, practical application.
