Turning CO₂ into Rock: Carbon Storage Beneath the Seafloor

Atmospheric CO₂ could be stored permanently as rock beneath the ocean floor. Led by Canada, the international Solid Carbon project is developing technology to capture CO₂ from the air and inject it into basalt below the seabed, where chemical reactions transform it into stable minerals. Combining ocean science, engineering and carbon removal, this presentation examines how this approach could be deployed at scale, and whether vast offshore basalt formations can help meet global climate targets.
