Science has always crossed borders, but geopolitical tensions are making international collaboration more difficult.

Research security, strategic autonomy and technological competition increasingly constrain international cooperation, while major scientific challenges still exceed national capacities. Sustaining frontier science requires new ways to reconcile openness with security and to strengthen the governance, reciprocity and trust needed when political relations are strained.
