2024 2024 Jury | Art & Science Art and Science Jury

Dan’s mission is to inspire where art and science meet. As a professor of cell biology at Tufts University, adjunct professor of drawing and painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and until recently, the Dean of its Biomedical Graduate School, he combines art and science with a unique perspective of a scientist’s mind and an artist’s eye. Dan develops new art media from scientific materials such as liquid nitrogen, magnetic fields, and components of gunpowder to express inspiration and wonder in science as well as social justice. Dan has shown this work widely and currently is working with the Burroughs-Wellcome Fund to address the benefits, challenges, and sustainability of an art-science nexus (see here).
