Reyedar's mission is to make early detection of degenerative diseases of the eye and brain accessible to everyone. Its technology combines wearable infrared eye tracking with proprietary algorithms: the patient simply follows moving stimuli for two minutes while the sensors record eye-movement responses. This hardware-software combination is called SONDA (Standardized Oculomotor and Neuro-ophthalmic Disorders Assessment). SONDA turns the gaze response into a fast, objective, and patient-friendly quantification of eye-movement properties, an oculomotor fingerprint that can serve as a digital biomarker across several conditions.

The first application is glaucoma: SONDA is CE-marked as a Class IIa medical device for the detection of functional visual field loss, and is used in ophthalmology departments, optometry practices and optical retail, bringing objective functional vision testing out of the hospital and into everyday eye care. The same technique is being investigated with academic partners as a biomarker for neurodegenerative and neurological conditions, including Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis and acquired brain injury, and as a digital endpoint for clinical trials.

Reyedar B.V., formerly Reperio Medtech, is a spin-off of the University Medical Center Groningen, the Netherlands.

Reyedar won the Falling Walls Science Breakthrough of the Year 2023 in the science start-up category.
