Yacob Mulugetta is Professor of Energy and Development Policy at University College London. He is also a founding member of the African Climate Policy Centre at the Ethiopia-based UN Economic Commission for Africa, where he served as senior climate and energy specialist (2010–2013). With over 25 years of experience in research, teaching, and policy advisory work, his expertise lies at the intersection of energy infrastructure, human welfare, and sustainable development. His research spans three interlinked domains: energy systems and development, energy and climate change, and the political economy of low-carbon transitions. Yacob has contributed as a Coordinating and Lead Author to both the IPCC’s 5th-7th Assessment Reports. He is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). Yacob is a co-founder of the African Institute for Sustainable Energy and Systems Analysis (AISESA).
