Wolfgang zu Castell

Wolfgang zu Castell is the Head of the Geoinformation Department and Chief Information Officer at GFZ, where he has served since November 2021. He chairs the Helmholtz Open Science Working Group and is involved with various steering boards, including Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration and NFDI4Earth. His research interests encompass data-driven analysis of complex systems, kernel-based methods, and applied data science. Previously, he held leadership roles in digitalization and ICT at HMGU and has been a visiting professor at universities in New Zealand and the USA. He is an Erskine Fellow and recipient of the Digital Science Award for his project "Digital Earth."
