Thomas Thum, is Professor and Director of the Institute of Molecular and Translational Therapeutic Strategies (IMTTS) at Hannover Medical School, Germany, and Visiting Professor at Imperial College London. Trained in cardiology and molecular medicine, his research focuses on RNA biology, fibrosis, and cardiovascular disease, with particular emphasis on microRNAs, long non-coding RNAs, and circular RNAs as therapeutic targets and biomarkers. He has authored more than 500 scientific publications and is among the internationally most cited researchers in cardiovascular RNA biology.

Prof. Thum is also founder of Cardior Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company developing RNA-based therapeutics for heart failure. His work has contributed to the clinical translation of oligonucleotide-based therapies for cardiovascular diseases, including first-in-human studies targeting microRNA pathways. He has received numerous scientific honors, including the Paul Martini Prize, the Desmond Julian Award, and ERC funding for translational cardiovascular research.
