Thomas Elsaesser is director at Max-Born-Institut für Nichtlineare Optik und Kurzzeitspektroskopie (MBI), and Professor for Experimental Physics at Humboldt University, Berlin. He received his Dr. rer. nat. degree in Physics from Technical University of Munich in 1986. He was a postdoctoral fellow at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Holmdel and a research associate at the Technical University of Munich. He is director at the newly founded MBI since 1993 and secretary of the Mathematics and Sciences Class of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. His research focuses on ultrafast phenomena in condensed matter; he received two ERC Advanced Grants and numerous scientific prizes.
