Stefan Mair

Stefan Mair has been Director of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs and Executive Chairman of the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) since October 1, 2020. Before that, he has been Member of the Executive Board of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) since 2010. Between 1992 and 2001, Dr Stefan Mair held a position as research associate at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), then as head of the Middle East and Africa Research Division of SWP until 2007 and as Research Director and member of the executive board from 2009 – 2010. He earned his doctorate from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich in 1992 and his areas of expertise include foreign and security policy challenges of Germany and the EU, geopolitical and geo-economic dynamics as well as trade and foreign economic policy.
