Sascha Schmeling is Head of Teacher and Student Programmes at CERN, where he leads all outward-facing education initiatives of the Organization. He has been with CERN since 1995, serving in a variety of roles across the institution. Initially training as a schoolteacher, he went on to earn a PhD in experimental particle physics from Mainz University.
In parallel to his work at CERN, Sascha is an active member of several learned societies, including the German Physical Society (DPG), the European Physical Society (EPS), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has held a number of leadership roles within EPS and IEEE and currently serves as an elected member of the Executive Committee of the European Physical Society, as well as Chairperson of its Physics Education Division.
His interests extend from education and education research to physics, environmental issues, and artificial intelligence, alongside a personal passion for flying.
