Dr. Reem Swidah holds a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Manchester and currently serves as a postdoctoral researcher in the Cai Lab hosted in the same institution. Reem is an expert in synthetic genomics, synthetic biology, and biotechnology, leading the Sc3.0 project and Genome Minimization within the Sc2.0 Synthetic Yeast as part of the Sc3.0 initiative. She aims to eliminate redundant elements in the genome, defining the minimal genetic components necessary to sustain life under specific conditions. Notably, Reem has garnered multiple awards for her scientific contributions. In 2024, she was shortlisted for the L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science UK and Ireland Rising Talents Awards. She is driven by her ambition to leverage her skills to address global challenges and pioneer innovative solutions.
I want to advance in my scientific career and ultimately become an independent research group leader. I want this as my ambition stems from a firm belief in my capacity to lead and a sense of responsibility, not only for my development but also for fostering the growth of others in their careers. With a robust background in synthetic genomics research and a positive personality, I am confident in my ability to achieve this goal.
