Rana Dajani is a Professor of molecular cell biology at Hashemite University, Jordan, the President of the Society for the Advancement of Science and Technology in the Arab World (SASTA), and the former Director and Chair of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). She is a world expert on genetics with research focusing on genome-wide association studies concerning diabetes and cancer in ethnic populations in Jordan. She established the stem cell research ethics law in Jordan and is an advocate for the biological evolution theory in relation to the religion of Islam, and believes strongly in the education and empowerment of women, being a member of the United Nations Women Jordan Advisory Council.
Rana Dajani established a women mentor network, received the Partnerships for enhanced engagement in research (PEER) award in 2014. She is the President of the Society for the Advancement of Science, Technology and Innovation in the Arab World. Furthermore she developed a community-based model “We love reading” to encourage children to read for pleasure and received the World Innovation Summit in Education Award 2014. Moreover Rana Dajani has been selected by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, sister organization of the World Economic Forum, as Schwab Foundation Awardee of the year 2022 in recognition of her innovative approach and potential for global impact.
