Oriana Trejo Alvarez is a Mexican astronomer and science communicator with over ten years of experience. She works at the Directorate for Communicating Knowledge at the President’s Office of the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM) in Mexico City. At the Directorate, she strengthens UAM’s knowledge dissemination to federal authorities, the productive sector, and the public. Oriana founded “Oriastro” to promote astronomy and scientific careers across society, and also participates as a mentor in the “Women in STEAM” program.

Oriana Trejo Alvarez' 2024 Falling Walls Engage Winner Project is UAM Mexico: Seeding Change through Inclusion.

The Project at Autonomous Metropolitan University manages Scholar Gardens, which raise awareness on water conservation, rainwater capture, climate conditions, plagues, and sustainable practices with an interdisciplinary approach. These projects promote inclusion of underrepresented groups, as well as local solutions that scale from schools to communities, creating regional and national impact.
