Nesrine el Abed was born in Sousse, Tunisia, in 1981. She is Tunisian and French and currently lives in Bahrain. She holds a Ph.D. with the highest distinction (Summa Cum Laude) from University Pantheon-Sorbonne Paris I (2013).

Dr. El Abed is also an Assistant Professor of Fine Arts with 17 years of experience in higher education and artistic research. In 2019, she began teaching at the University of Bahrain as an Assistant Professor. Between 2008 and 2019, she also served as an Assistant Professor in Tunisia, teaching at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts of Sousse and the Institute of Arts and Crafts of Kairouan.

Her expertise spans a wide range of disciplines, including art history, aesthetics, Islamic art, contemporary art, art criticism, semiotics, ceramics, and oil painting. Specializing in modern art theory and aesthetics, her research focuses on identity and the deconstruction of form through the concept of the formless. Her theoretical approach engages in critical dialogue with the work of Georges Didi-Huberman and Georges Bataille.

Her career across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East gives her a unique intercultural perspective, which she brings to contemporary creation and international artistic dialogue. Dr. Nesrine El Abed currently works as the Director of the Rak Art Foundation in Bahrain
