Michael Schaepman is President of the University of Zurich (UZH), Switzerland, and Professor of Remote Sensing at the Department of Geography, UZH Remote Sensing Laboratories. He previously served as Vice Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Science and as a member of the Executive Board of the University of Zurich responsible for research, innovation, and academic career development.
His research focuses on Earth observation, remote sensing, and spectroscopy, with particular emphasis on measuring biodiversity and ecosystem properties from space. He has held academic positions at the University of Zurich and Wageningen University and has led major research initiatives in geographic information science and environmental monitoring. He was appointed President of the University of Zurich in 2020.
