Matthias Maurer

Dr. Matthias Maurer (born 1970) is an ESA astronaut and scientist. After earning his PhD in materials science and gaining several years of professional experience as a product developer in the medical industry, he joined the European Space Agency (ESA) in 2009 and was later added to the astronaut class in 2015. As part of his mission Cosmic Kiss, he became the 12th German in space in 2021, spending around six months living and working on the International Space Station (ISS).
