Mario Pinto is Vice President (Research & International) at the University of Manitoba, Canada. Prior to joining the university in 2022, he served as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) at Griffith University in Australia and previously held senior leadership roles including President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Chair of the Global Research Council, and Vice President Research at Simon Fraser University. He received his undergraduate and doctoral degrees in chemistry from Queen’s University, Canada.
An internationally recognized researcher in chemical biology, Dr. Pinto has authored more than 250 scientific publications and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. His work spans research leadership, innovation, and commercialization, including the development of interdisciplinary and industry partnerships in health, biotechnology, and entrepreneurship. Dr. Pinto is also a strong advocate for global collaboration, equity, diversity, and inclusion in research and innovation.
