Dr. Marianne Mureithi is the current Chair of the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology and a Senior Research Fellow/ Senior Lecturer at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. Her work focuses on studying multiple social-behavioural, environmental and biological factors associated with the increased susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections and advocating for better access to Sexual and Reproductive health care for all women and girls in sub-Saharan Africa. She is passionate about raising and mentoring the next generation of outstanding African scientists who will help solve some of the continent's greatest health and development challenges. I want to improve the sexual and reproductive health outcomes of Sub-Saharan Africa women. I want this because the sub-Saharan women, especially those in poverty, are more vulnerable to factors such as anatomic, physiologic, social and behavioural dynamics. I can do this because I am part of an international team advancing the development of vaccines and new technologies to combat the AIDS epidemic and other sexually transmitted infections.
