Márcio de Castro Silva Filho is Scientific Director and full professor in the Department of Genetics at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture, University of São Paulo (USP). He has served as Pro-Rector of Graduate Studies at USP and has been a visiting scholar at the University of Melbourne and Ohio State University.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Federal University of Lavras and his PhD in Plant Molecular Biology from the University of Louvain in Belgium. His research focuses on genetics and plant molecular biology, contributing to the development of agricultural science and biotechnology in Brazil.

Prof. de Castro Silva Filho is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences. He has served as president of the Brazilian Society of Genetics, a titular member of the National Technical Commission for Biosafety, and chair of the National Forum of Pro-Rectors of Research and Graduate Studies. He has also held leadership positions at CAPES, Brazil’s agency for higher education personnel development, including Head of Biological Sciences I, Director of International Relations, and Director of Programs and Scholarships.
