Katrin Böhning-Gaese

Katrin Böhning-Gaese is Scientific Director of the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research and professor at Leipzig University. From 2010 to 2024, she was Director of the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre. The biologist and recipient of the German Environmental Award studies how climate and land-use change affect biodiversity and ecosystems, and what role biodiversity plays in human well-being. As a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, she is actively involved in advising policymakers and society.
