Jürgen Renn’s research centers on the coupled human-Earth system, exploring how knowledge and technology have shaped human-environment interactions. He was founding director at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science and in 2022 co-founded the Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology, where he studies the Anthropocene and the technosphere. Together with his team he researches new modes of knowledge-production, applying methodologies such as the “Decision Theater” to foster genuinely co-creative interplays between scientific expertise, local insight and societal deliberation.
