Johannes Wessels

Prof. Dr. Johannes Wessels, a Nuclear Physics professor at the University of Münster since 2003, specializes in heavy ion physics, particle detectors, and medical imaging. Previously, he held roles at institutions including CERN, where he was deputy spokesperson for the ALICE experiment from 2011 to 2016. Wessels has contributed to various research initiatives and has held leadership positions with the German Physical Society, the GSI Helmholtz Center, and CERN’s Scientific Policy Committee. He has been the rector of the University of Münster since 2016 and chairs the State Rectors' Conference North Rhine-Westphalia as of 2022.
