Jochen Büttner is a senior researcher at the MPI of Geoanthropology, focusing on the intersections of history, technology, and AI. Trained as a physicist with a PhD in the history of science, he previously worked at the MPI for the History of Science and was a Research Associate at the Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Data and Learning, developing ML/AI applications for historical sciences and archaeology. At the MPI of Geoanthropology, he coordinates the development of an AI Research Assistant and studies long-term human-Earth system interactions.
