Janet King chairs the board of the Canadian Light Source (CLS), Canada's national synchrotron research facility in Saskatoon. A former Associate Deputy Minister in the Canadian federal public service, she also chairs the board of Polar Knowledge Canada and has led NSERC PermafrostNet and an expert panel on research infrastructure for the Council of Canadian Academies.
