A side view of two trains, one on the left in focus, appearing to be stationary or moving slowly parallel to each other. The train on the left has red and light blue stripes along its side with reflective silver details around its windows. The train on the right is mostly obscured, showing only a narrow side profile, creating a tight space between the two. The perspective is angled, with the trains stretching into the distance under a bright, possibly overcast, sky.

Intelligence on wheels has developed an infrastructure-independent train collision avoidance system. We offer an unique train collision avoidance system based on technology developed for the aerospace industry by the German Aerospace Center (DLR). It combines three core technologies: a direct train-to-train communication system, an accurate track-selective localization system and a cooperative situation analysis decision support system. As opposed to “traditional” technical train safety systems, the approach does not require any technology in the infrastructure, i.e. along the railway track, but entirely relies on sensors and communication technology within the trains. The system has been implemented and demonstrated with real trains as part of a DLR scientific research project, showing the huge potential for saving lives and avoiding damages.
