Professor Ian Walmsley FRS is a prominent physicist known for his contributions to the field of quantum optics and quantum technologies. He currently serves as Director of the Oxford Quantum Institute. Previously, he was the Provost of Imperial College London, where he played a key role in advancing research and education in science, engineering, medicine and business. He is also the chair and co-founder of ORCA Computing. Professor Walmsley graduated from Imperial College London with first-class honours in physics in 1980 and completed his PhD at the University of Rochester. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society, the American Physical Society, the Institute of Physics and Optica; of which he was elected President in 2018.
