Holger Gerhardt

Prof. Dr. Holger Gerhardt heads the Integrative Vascular Biology Laboratory at the Max Delbrück Center and is Professor of Experimental Cardiovascular Research at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. His research explores how blood vessels grow, adapt, and maintain their function throughout life, and how these processes become disrupted in disease. By bridging fundamental discoveries in vascular biology with human disease research, his team seeks to identify new opportunities for prevention and treatment. He serves as Vice-Director of the Max Delbrück Center and is a member of the Executive Board of the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK), promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and the translation of scientific discoveries into medical advances.
