Geraint Rhys Whittaker is an artist-researcher exploring how art and science can reshape public perceptions of oceanic threats. He focuses on combining sound and audio data with artistic methods to study anthropogenic impacts on oceans. Drawing on his experiences as a musician, filmmaker, and sound artist, along with his background in political and cultural geography, Geraint aims to investigate and address pressing environmental issues through collaborative approaches.
Geraint Rhys Whittaker 's 2024 Falling Walls Engage Winner Project is Ocean Science Jam.
The Ocean Science Jam unites musicians, artists, dancers, and ocean researchers to creatively respond to real-time visual and acoustic cues based on marine science themes. This project emphasises co-creation over mere communication, fostering lasting public engagement. By encouraging fun, participatory interactions with ocean research, it aims to enhance public understanding and promote behavioural change for ocean conservation.
