Franck Ruffier is CNRS Research Director at the Institute of Movement Science (ISM), CNRS – Aix Marseille Univ, France. He was visiting scientist at Univ. of Washington, Seattle, USA in 2012 as well as at RIKEN, Nagoya, Japan.

Franck Ruffier published 12 book chapters and 12 patents as well as more than 90 papers, including some in major high-profile scientific journals: Nature, Science, PNAS, Curr. Biol. His main areas of interest are frugal bio-inspired vision and bio-inspired robotics. He has designed and built no fewer than 8 bioinspired ground and flying robots equipped with artificial compound eyes and frugal visual processing, demonstrating the performance of bioinspired robotics.
