Emmanuel Stratakis

Emmanuel Stratakis is Research Director and Acting Director of the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) at the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), Greece. He is also Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Crete. He leads the “Ultrafast Laser Micro- and Nano-Processing” laboratory at FORTH and serves as Director of the FORTH Nanoscience Facility within the NFFA-Europe research infrastructure.

His research focuses on laser–matter interaction and ultrafast laser processing of advanced materials, including biomimetic surfaces, graphene and 2D materials, photonic and energy-related systems, and laser-assisted biofabrication. He has authored over 300 scientific publications with more than 17,000 citations and an h-index of 71 (Google Scholar), coordinated numerous European and national research projects, and has delivered more than 150 invited and keynote lectures. He is an OPTICA Fellow, an EIC Ambassador, and founder and CEO of Biomimetic. He has also been an editor for several international scientific journals.
