Edelgard Bulmahn

Dr. h.c. Edelgard Bulmahn is Chair of the Board of Trustees at Humboldt University and serves on several other senates, foundations, and boards related to science and research. She was a member of the German Bundestag for 30 years, with extensive expertise in education, research, and innovation policy, having significantly influenced this field in Germany for over two decades. Bulmahn chaired the Committee on Education, Research, and Technology Assessment as well as the Committee on Economic Affairs and Technology. From 1998 to November 2005, she served as Federal Minister for Education and Research and, from 2013 to 2017, as Vice President of the Bundestag. She initiated major research and technology programs, the successful Excellence Initiative for universities, and the Pact for Research and Innovation.
