David Spergel is an American theoretical astrophysicist and the Emeritus Princeton University. Since 2021, he has been the President of the Simons Foundation and Simons Foundation International. These foundations support basic research in mathematics and science. He is known for his work on the WMAP project that measured the age and shape of the universe. He is a MacArthur Fellow and a winner of the Shaw Prize, the Gruber Prize and the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics.
