Prof. Chamovitz is President of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, a position he has held since January 1, 2019. He earned his PhD in Genetics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, followed by postdoctoral research at Yale. Before becoming President, he was Dean of the George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences at Tel Aviv University and founded the Manna Center Program for Food Safety and Security. He is also the author of What a Plant Knows, a popular science book translated into many languages, and publishes extensively in plant biology, developmental biology, and related fields.
