Christoph M. Schmidt

Christoph M. Schmidt is President of the Leibniz Association (Leibniz-Gemeinschaft) and Professor of Economic Policy and Applied Econometrics at Ruhr University Bochum. An applied econometrician specialising in energy, health and labour economics, he chaired the German Council of Economic Experts from 2013 to 2020 and co-chairs the Franco-German Council of Economic Experts. Prior to assuming the Leibniz presidency on 1 July 2026, he served as President of the RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research from 2002 to 2026.
