Beate Heinemann

After having grown up, studied and graduated in Hamburg, Heinemann spent sixteen years in the UK and the USA, and held a professorship at the University of California in Berkeley, before returning to DESY in Hamburg, where she was appointed director in 2022. She is an experimental particle physicist who has performed her research mostly at large particle colliders at DESY, at FNAL near Chicago and at CERN near Geneva. She has contributed to the observation of the Higgs boson in 2021.
