Annabel Slaight

Annabel Slaight is a Canadian media pioneer, environmental advocate, and Founder and Chair of the ClearWater Futures Foundation. For over 50 years, she has inspired children through science, nature, and storytelling. Co-founder of OWL Magazine and OWL/TV, she has nurtured a love of learning for 60 million families. With children, she co-founded the Future Chicken digital and live universe, combining animation and humour to empower youth climate action. Her work has been recognized by such awards as the Order of Canada and the Sanford Fleming Science Medal for promoting eco-literacy.

Future Chicken is a climate science communication initiative that empowers children to care about the planet through animation, storytelling, and hands-on learning. It uses the time-travelling character Future Chicken to turn climate anxiety into hopeful action. Built on over 10 years of collaboration with 5,000+ children at ClearWater Farm Learning Lab in Canada, it has created 300+ SDG-aligned videos. With nearly 40 million views worldwide, it is inspiring young changemakers to use science and bold kindness to create a better future.
