Public disclosure:
A pitch in an open setting can be considered a form of public disclosure. If you share too much detailed technical information, this can in some cases prevent later patenting. Pitching in the Falling Walls Lab will be considered public disclosure.
Note: Do not share more detailed technical information than necessary about your idea in this form. Public disclosure of details can in some cases make it difficult to obtain a patent later. Instead, describe the problem, the target group, and the value of the solution at a high level. Employees at OsloMet, Kristiania and VID who are invited to pitch will be contacted in advance to ensure that the pitch is conducted in a way that preserves the possibility of patenting.
What does this mean in practice?
- You are absolutely fine to describe the problem, the target group, and how your solution creates value.
- Be more cautious about describing very specific technical solutions, unique methods, algorithms, formulas, or other details that constitute the core “secret sauce” of your solution.
- You do not need to explain exactly how something is done technically for us to be able to assess your idea at this stage.
