Stefan is a trained lawyer who holds a Master in environmental law from Tulane University in New Orleans. As a diplomat of the German Foreign Office he served inter alia at embassies in Minsk and Ankara and the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York. He also was advisor to the President of the UN General Assembly and a German Minister of State. Recently he was head of the division for development and sustainability policy in the Foreign Office, since 2020 he is responsible for international science policy.
