Ekkehard Peik

Ekkehard Peik is head of the Time and Frequency Department at PTB in Braunschweig, and an experimental physicist specialized in quantum optics, atomic and nuclear physics, laser cooling and trapping of atoms and ions, optical frequency standards, and tests of fundamental physics with clocks. When he joined PTB in 2001, the proposal of a nuclear optical clock with Th-229 together with Christian Tamm was one of his first activities in the new position.
