Barbara Albert is Professor of Inorganic Chemistry and the Rector of the University of Duisburg-Essen. Her research focuses on solid-state and materials chemistry, with particular expertise in boron and iron compounds. She leads projects in the Collaborative Research Centre 1487 “Iron, upgraded!”, funded by the German Research Foundation, and investigates fundamental challenges in the chemistry of borides and transition metals.
Barbara Albert has held prominent academic leadership positions, including professorships at the Technical University Darmstadt and the University of Hamburg, as well as serving as Dean, Vice President for Research, and Director of research institutes. She is actively engaged in shaping the scientific community, serving on editorial boards of leading journals, scientific advisory boards, and commissions, including the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, the Einstein Foundation, and the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis.
Her work bridges fundamental research and materials innovation, contributing to the advancement of solid-state chemistry and its applications in modern materials science.
