Abraham Mamela is a seasoned science communication and engagement consultant based in Gaborone, Botswana. He currently serves as the Communications Coordinator for the Alliance for African Partnership at Michigan State University, a program dedicated to transforming lives in Africa through research and innovation fostered by equitable partnerships. In 2015, Abraham founded Infers Group, a knowledge management company that bridges the gap between society and knowledge producers in Africa. Through Infers Group, he has collaborated with scientists and stakeholders to translate complex scientific content and policies into accessible information for the public. One of his notable projects, "Genome Adventures," is a series of comic books designed to communicate, engage and demystify gene sequencing and biomedical research. This initiative has been translated into ten languages, including Arabic and Portuguese, highlighting his commitment to making science accessible to diverse audiences. Abraham has also co-founded several innovative science engagement projects, such as "Arting Health for Impact," which combines street art and biomedical science, and "Heartstrings and Heartbeats," addressing mental health issues among creative individuals. From 2018 to 2021, he was a Wellcome International Engagement Fellow, an opportunity that allowed him to explore best practices in creating research ecosystems in Africa.
