Falling Walls Engage Hub Canada
Connecting and empowering science engagement practitioners across Canada through collaboration, skills-building and global networking
Hub focus
The Hub focuses on strengthening science engagement across Canada by creating new links between leading science engagers, local and regional networks, research institutions, and citizen scientists, with the goal of amplifying their collective impact across the country. Through activities such as workshops, events and cross-sector partnerships, the Hub enables the collaboration and knowledge exchange needed to professionalise and elevate the field and empower practitioners.
Key priority areas
Promoting inclusion and increasing the diversity of voices in the field of science engagement is Engage Hub Canada’s central priority. The Hub actively supports underrepresented demographics including Indigenous communities, youth and equity-deserving groups through the creation of targeted opportunities such as travel bursaries and inclusive programming formats. In addition, the Hub has a long-term goal of becoming a valuable resource for Canadians changing their communities through science and science policymaking outreach initiatives. By providing networking, skills training and relationship-building opportunities, the Hub supports and strengthens science engagement projects at local level.
Local relevance
Engage Hub Canada plugs Canadian science engagers into a global community where they can learn from peers, build new partnerships and contribute in meaningful ways to addressing pressing global issues. Meeting the need for stronger national coordination, the Hub also seeks to connect science professionals and organisations across culturally diverse regions, in doing so bridging gaps in access to resources and training and fostering a stronger national scientific ecosystem.
About the Hub
Location and network
The Engage Hub Canada is hosted by Royal Canadian Institute for Science (RCIScience), Canada’s oldest scientific society dedicated to public science engagement and communication. The Hub is managed by Carrie Boyce, Executive Director of RCIScience, and supported by an Advisory Committee composed of representatives from leading Canadian universities, funding bodies and science organisations. As part of the global Falling Walls Engage network, the Hub connects Canadian science engagement practitioners to an international community of like-minded professionals, fostering collaboration, joint programming and strategic exchange.
