Hertie Foundation
More data does not lead to better decisions. Scientific evidence often loses out to electoral logic, short-term incentives and institutional design. The discussion examines why facts fail to shape policy, and which political structures enable governments to act on knowledge without losing democratic legitimacy. At stake is the capacity of democracies to respond to complex crises while remaining both accountable to citizens and grounded in evidence.
