Smita Abbi is Head of Women's Health, Regulatory Affairs at Organon, a company dedicated to helping create a better and healthier every day for every woman. She leads the group that enables regulatory access to medicines for fertility, contraception, and other gynecological conditions in 100+ countries, as well as innovation in these therapeutic areas.
Over 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry, Smita has worked in translational science, clinical development, and regulatory affairs across every stage of development for medicines addressing women’s health, oncology, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases and neuroscience. Before Organon, she held leadership roles at Regeneron and Novartis, where she helped advance therapies for patients around the world.
Throughout her career Smita has been driven by the passion to help people who are suffering, which led her to social work. She leads Vision Builders, a nonprofit that is dedicated to expanding access to education and nutrition for children, vocational training for women, and healthcare to the under-served communities in India. She received a Points of Light Award for this work in 2024.
Smita received her Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
