Mel Heyman

Mel Heyman is Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Programme at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco. A pioneer in paediatric gastroenterology and nutrition, he was among the first to reveal the importance of nutritional support in sickle cell anaemia and helped develop diagnostic procedures for liver conditions in infants. He served as chief of paediatric gastroenterology for 26 years at UCSF, has trained over 75 paediatric gastroenterologists, and founded a summer camp for children with IBD.
