Matthias Bethge

Matthias Bethge is Professor at Tübingen University and Founding Director of the Tübingen AI Center. His research bridges neuroscience and machine learning and pioneered neural style transfer, the first deep learning method to re-render images in artistic styles. His current work focuses on agentic AI systems capable of continual, compositional, and personalized learning. He is co-founder of MADDOX.AI, a precision-tech company for industrial quality control, and of the ELLIS initiative. Bethge also leads the ELIAS Alliance, nurturing European leadership in innovation through AI and science.
